How to enrol

Step 1. Speak to your VET Coordinator or Career Practitioner

Speak with your VET Coordinator or Career Practitioner to determine if VET is the most suitable pathway for your educational and career goals. Discuss how it fits with your senior secondary certificate, whether you will require work placement, how the qualifications will be recognised, and if it will impact your ATAR should you need one.

Your school will advise the VET Cluster Coordinator (WSMLLEN) which VET program you are interested in. WSMLLEN allocates places in VET programs based on a priority system, which ensures VET program places are allocated fairly. This system—set by the VET Cluster Governance Group—determines the order in which students are offered places. For example, students continuing into the second year of a course are given priority. If a course reaches capacity before your priority group is processed, you may be placed on a waiting list.

Step 2. Apply for a USI (Unique Student Identifier)

While waiting to hear if you have been allocated a place in your chosen VET program, you should find or apply for your USI.

A USI is a unique reference just for you! All students undertaking nationally recognised training need one. Your USI is linked to the National Vocational Education and Training (VET) Data Collection, which means that any recognised training you do at any time will be recorded and kept together, regardless of which RTO provides you the training. Creating a USI is free and you can easily apply online at www.usi.gov.au. You will not be able to complete Step 3 until you have your USI. See your VET Coordinator if you have difficulty.

Step 3. Complete the online VET Cluster application form

If you are offered a place in your chosen VET program, your school’s VET Coordinator will email you a link to the VET Cluster Application Form. Completing this form is the first step to securing your place in the course.

To complete the form, you will need:

  • Your Unique Student Identifier (USI), and

  • A parent or guardian to provide consent.

Please note:

  • Late applications are not eligible for priority placement.

  • If your application is not submitted within seven days, your place may be reallocated.

Step 4. Engage with your RTO

After completing your VET Cluster Application, your details will be forwarded to the RTO responsible for your training. You'll need to complete the RTO's enrolment  process and provide information to them. Rest assured; your information is protected by law. For more details, refer to the privacy statement from WSMLLEN (VET Cluster Coordinators) at www.llen.com.au. Your RTO will also inform you about privacy protection during enrolment.

If you have questions or need support to apply or enrol, you should contact your school's VET Coordinator or Career Practitioner in the first instance. WSMLLEN can offer general information regarding process but is unable to speak to individual student applications or enrolments or provide career guidance.
